What materials can my deck be built with?

How are the posts set in concrete?

We typically set the post in concrete anywhere from 1 to 3 feet into the ground (depending on the ground conditions)  unless you specify otherwise.

Do you use nails or screws?

We use Both! We use ring-shank galvanized nails for the treated lumber framing. Using nails allows the frame to settle without sheering. We typically use 2.5 to 3 inch coated screws to secure the decking to the frame. Composite screws used to secure the decking come in a variety of colors to match the deck boards.

Is deck staining included with the purchase of a deck?

We offer deck staining at an additional cost. Our customers usually opt to have us stain their decks because we can offer a better price when bundled with their deck purchase. We recommend staining within 30 days of having your deck built to protect your investment. We use Sikkens stain that comes in a variety of colors to match your design style.

How long will it take to build my deck?

We can usually build a deck in 3-5 days. The time it takes generally depends on size and we can give you a more accurate schedule when we provide your estimate. While we are very fast builders we are also concerned with the quality of product we provide. We specialize in building custom designs so we can build multi-leveled, odd shaped decks and arbors quickly and with attention to detail.

Do you build benches, storage seating, or privacy walls?

Yes, we love to include these specially built pieces to accentuate your new deck. We will help you design custom benches and privacy screens to meet your entertaining needs.

If I live outside of San Antonio, can I get a Southwest Custom Deck?

You certainly can! We have built many decks outside of San Antonio give us a call and we will be happy to come give you a free estimate.

Are you insured?

Yes! We carry general liability insurance to protect our customers property.

Should I get other estimates?

Yes! Southwest Custom Decks provides competitive pricing against major competitors. We always recommend getting other estimates because you should feel comfortable and confident in the builder you choose. We recommend asking questions like "who will build my deck?", "Do you do criminal background checks on your builders?" How much experience will my builder have?" Be sure not to sign contracts you have not read or are uncomfortable with the terms. Many builders will send an experienced salesman to give you an estimate, be prepared for pushy sales tactics. Southwest Custom Decks wants you to be happy with your investment and never pushes their clients to sign a contract without reviewing it first.
